UPDATED: Red Funnel’s Red Jet terminal in Southampton has been evacuated this morning (Wednesday) following the discovery of a suspicious package.
Hampshire Constabulary were called to the scene at Terminal 2, Town Quay shortly after 09:00 when Red Funnel staff raised concerns over a bag.
The building has been evacuated as a precaution. A cordon has been put in place and Police are on scene.
In a statement issued to Island Echo, a spokesperson for Red Funnel has said:
“Red Funnel’s ferry terminal at Terminal 2, Town Quay, Southampton was evacuated at 09:15 this morning following the discovery of a suspicious bag.
“The Red Jet service has been temporarily moved to Terminal 1 with no effect on the Hi-Speed timetable.
“Terminal 2 is expected to re-open shortly”.
UPDATE @ 10:28 – Terminal 2 has now reopened and services are resuming as normal.
Police have confirmed that a specialist Police search advisor has attended the scene with a trained explosives dog, that did not indicate any explosives were present.
The package has been confirmed as being an empty rucksack.
