Cross-Solent ferry operator Red Funnel has confirmed the return of its winter timetable as it begins a planned refit programme aimed at boosting reliability and long-term service resilience.
From Tuesday 4th November through to Thursday 26th March, the vehicle ferry service will revert to the standard 2-boat timetable, with Red Eagle undergoing a major engine service.
Red Falcon and Red Osprey will also receive scheduled maintenance, with Red Falcon additionally set to have one of its Voith propellers exchanged.
A new temporary timetable for Red Funnel’s Hi-Speed Red Jet service will run from Sunday 9th November until Sunday 30th November, during which time Red Jet 6 will undergo generator maintenance as well as upgrades to cabin carpets and passenger seating. Red Jet 7 is scheduled for its service in the New Year.
Neil Chapman, Operations Director at Red Funnel, has said:
“Reliability and punctuality are our top priorities, and throughout this year we have made improvements with significant investment in preventative maintenance, extra spares holdings and additional in-house resource.
“We strategically time the refits for the quieter winter months so that we can maintain our full service schedule in the busier summer period but still operate an extensive winter timetable to support our customers.
“These upgrades and enhancements are essential to maintain compliance, improve customer experience and deliver a reliable service all year round.”

Red Funnel says it will announce its Christmas timetable later this year to support Islanders travelling to the mainland for shopping, festive events or visiting friends and family – and to welcome visitors heading to the Isle of Wight during the holiday season.
