An array of prizes worth over £800 are up for grabs in the biggest raffle ever hosted by the Island’s Cats Protection adoption centre.
Staff and volunteers at the feline welfare charity in Ryde have been busy collecting a wide variety of luxurious festive prizes from generous local businesses to raise vital funds for cats in need.
Among the prizes are a £50 voucher for Wightlink, a family entrance ticket to Tapnell Farm, an afternoon tea hamper from Briddlesford Farm, a £15 voucher and bottle of crémant from Appley Manor, vouchers for Island produce and shops and many many more.
Proceeds from the raffle will help cats like 18-year-old Puss Puss who arrived in care when his owner sadly died and he could not settle with the rest of the family’s pets. He has needed some vet treatment, as you would expect for a cat in his senior years, but is now showing his youthful side and is ready to find a new home of his own.
His fosterers Martin and Roma have enjoyed welcoming Puss Puss into their home. Martin says:
“Puss Puss is a lovely gentleman, it’s has been a real pleasure to have him in our home. We have nicknamed him the ‘lovely boy’! Although he is elderly, he can be sprightly at times and will dash up and down the stairs.
“He eats well and will come up and gently head-butt you to let you know when he’s hungry – after food he likes to take a siesta!
“He is not really a lap cat but will get on your lap for a short while before sitting nearby. He does enjoy being stroked and will emit a very gentle purr. We often notice him sitting on the window, looking at the outside world so I think he would enjoy some outside space but I don’t think he would ever go far.”

Deputy Adoption Centre Manager Jo Morrison adds:
“Our Christmas raffle is certainly our most exciting, with the widest variety of prizes we’ve ever had to offer. We have been blown away by the extremely kind generosity of local businesses who have donated some really special goodies. The money we raise will all go to help cats in our care, those like gorgeous Puss Puss who just needs a loving home where he can be the only pet and enjoy his later years.”
A ticket will be allocated at random for each £2 donated and the raffle will be drawn on 12th December at 14:00.
