A new exhibition exploring births, deaths and marriages at Newport Minster is set to launch this September, and members of the public are being invited to share their stories and photographs.
As part of the ongoing National Lottery Heritage Funded project at the historic church, the team behind the exhibition are looking to collect images and memories of weddings, baptisms and funerals held at Newport Minster – also known as Sts. Thomas Church.
The exhibition will be unveiled during Newport Heritage Day in September, celebrating the life events that have taken place in the building over generations.
Hannah Griffiths, Community Engagement Coordinator, has said:
“We would love to share some of the stories of these big life events as part of the exhibition.
“We would like to feature images of weddings, baptisms and even funerals at Newport Minster/Sts. Thomas Church as part of the exhibition and would love you to feature your pictures in this new exhibition.”
In addition to photographs, the team is hoping to speak with local people who have marked significant moments at the church, such as weddings, christenings or funerals.
Jodie Whitton, Volunteer Exhibitions Assistant, has said:
“We would like to create an oral history archive of the people of the church for future generations.”
