A provisional trial date has been set in the case of Samara Glover, who is accused of murdering Isle of Wight toddler Jayla-Jean Mclaren.
Appearing before Judge Bowes KC at Portsmouth Crown Court earlier this afternoon (Monday), Glover spoke only to confirm her name and date of birth.
The 27-year-old, of Dairy Crest Drive in Newport, is accused of murder and causing or allowing the death of a child.
It was early on Friday 1st August last year that the young child was rushed from her home to St Mary’s Hospital with serious injuries, later being transferred to Southampton General Hospital by air for specialist treatment.
Tragically, despite the best efforts of all involved, the youngster died in hospital on Sunday 3rd August due to serious head injuries, sparking an outpour of emotion from the local community.
The case was adjourned until the 23rd March when a plea is expected to be entered.
A provisional trial date of 29th June has been set.
There was no bail application on Glover’s behalf, with the 27-year-old remanded in custody.
