Police are probing the circumstances which have led to a 1-year-old child being admitted to hospital in a serious condition.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary says the force was alerted at 11:34 this morning (Friday) to a report of a young child being taken to St Mary’s Hospital in a serious condition.
Officers investigating the matter have spent the day conducting enquiries at an address in Newport.
No arrests have been made at this stage.
Island Echo understands the child was flown to Southampton General Hospital by air ambulance this morning.
They remain in hospital at this time.
UPDATE SATURDAY – Police have confirmed that 2 people – a man and woman from Newport – have been arrested on suspicion of causing GBH with intent.
