UPDATED: Firefighters are this afternoon (Thursday) tackling a property fire on Cross Lane, Newport.
Two fire appliances and an Incident Command Unit are on scene alongside Police, who have closed the road. Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are also in attendance.
Emergency services were alerted to the incident at 15:45.
UPDATE @ 16:30 – The fire, situated within a new build semi-detached house, has been extinguished by fire crews.
It was initially feared that persons may have been inside the property, however it was quickly confirmed by the first crew in attendance not to be the case. An additional appliance from Ryde was mobilised to the incident, but was stood down upon arrival.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus have used a hose reel to bring the fire – which started in the living room – under control. The cause is currently unclear.
The building has been rid of smoke using positive pressure ventilation.
Cross Lane has reopened to traffic in both directions, however the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service remain on scene.
UPDATE @ 16:55 – The British Red Cross Emergency and Fire Support unit is now on scene to assist the occupants of the property.
One appliance has now returned to station alongside the Incident Command Unit. Police and paramedics have also stood down.
