The Stag Inn on Cowes Road has now installed a potentially lifesaving defibrillator thanks to fundraising activities which had been delayed due to COVID-19.
The donations started coming in during 2019 thanks to music quizzes and raffles held in the pub. However, once it was forced to close in the first lockdown in 2020, this activity stalled. Thanks to a massive effort by the locals in kick-starting the popular Name that Tune music quizzes once restrictions were eased, the target was finally reached in early 2022.
Dean Unsworth, fundraising coordinator, said:
“We are delighted to have reached our goal of providing a defibrillator, which is available 24/7 and is part of the national defibrillator network. The cabinet door lock code can be obtained by calling 999.
“This location, although on a busy main road, is not within speedy reach of the nearest defibrillators in Cowes or Newport in a medical emergency. This equipment is therefore able to serve the residents of the local area.”
A training session has been completed in conjunction with the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, which was invaluable in sharing knowledge on the correct use of the equipment.
