UPDATED: Police are in a standoff situation with a man at St John’s Train Station in Ryde this evening (Thursday), with the individual stood on top of a signal throwing objects at officers.
Train services have been suspended whilst power is cut to the track to allow Police to negotiate with the agitated male.
Support has been drafted in with a local dog unit in attendance alongside armed Police officers, who are currently using their shields as protection.
Island Line say services have been suspended on the entire network and are likely to remain suspended until 22:00.
UPDATE 21:10 – One male has now been detained and restrained following a successful resolution to the situation.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and 5 Police units have attended the incident, alongside a Serenity mental health nurse to assess the well being of the man. The unknown male has now been arrested and conveyed to hospital.
Engineers from Island Line are assessing any damage to the signals before restoring power to the track.
