UPDATED: Police have been involved in the pursuit of a vehicle in Newport this evening (Saturday).
Several Police units are reported to have responded through Pan Estate and onto Bluebell Meadows at just before 21:15 whilst in pursuit of a silver Citroen Saxo.
It is understood the small hatchback vehicle was pursued up through Furlongs before being abandoned at the bottom of the Bluebell Meadows estate by two occupants, who fled the scene.
A search is underway tonight for the pair, who are believed to have run into nearby woodland. Police remain on scene at Godric Road.
Island Echo understands the vehicle has no tax, MOT or insurance and the driver – who only purchased the car two days ago – does not hold a driving licence.
Door to door enquiries are taking place.
UPDATE @ 00:09 – The Isle of Wight Roads Policing Unit have issued an appeal via Twitter for information relating to the incident.
Local residents say the wanted persons have not been apprehended after driving at high speed through the residential estates, ultimately endangering themselves and other road users.
The vehicle has been recovered to the Police compound.
A silver Saxo has been abandoned on Bluebell Meadows tonight. Witnesses are being sought and identity of driver. Please call 101 with info.
