UPDATED: POLICE IN FOOT CHASE AS DRIVER DECAMPS IN NEWPORT

The driver of a Ford Focus is being sought by Police tonight (Monday) after legging it from officers when they attempted to stop a vehicle in Newport. Police indicated for a Ford Focus estate to stop as it travelled along Staplers Road and into Cross Lane. But at just before 19:45, the driver decided otherwise. The vehicle came to an abrupt halt in the middle of the road with the driver hot-footing it away from officers. Despite giving pursuit on foot and a subsequent search of the local area, the driver has not been located. The car has since been recovered with a number of items contained within seized. UPDATE TUESDAY – Police have confirmed that a large quantity of cannabis was seized from within the vehicle. The driver has not been located, but enquiries remain ongoing.
