UPDATED: An elderly woman has died after falling on a path near Appley in Ryde this morning.
Police cordoned off the forest path leading alongside St Mary’s Primary School between Ampthill Road and Appley Lane while the unknown woman’s body was recovered by private ambulance.
Emergency services were called to the scene shortly before 09:45, where a female was discovered laying on the floor with head injuries.
It is believed she suffered a medical episode.
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance attended the incident, landing in the playground of nearby St Mary’s Primary School at 10:15, however left the scene shortly after the arrival of paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
A number of Police units responded to the incident and it has since been established that there are no suspicious circumstances.
Meanwhile, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has landed in a field near to Carisbrooke College, Newport on its second deployment on the Island this morning.
UPDATE @ 15:45 – It has been confirmed this afternoon by Hampshire Constabulary that the woman was 71 years of age.
A file is being prepared for the Island’s coroner.
