UPDATED: Police have erected a cordon around part of a shopping arcade in Shanklin this morning (Saturday).
An officer is standing guard at the cordon on Palmerston Road, with what appears to be shards of a glass bottle smashed on the floor.
It is understood an assault took place overnight, possibly around the hours of 02:30.
Hampshire Constabulary are yet to issue a statement on the matter.
UPDATE @ 14:00 – Scenes of crime officers have conducted an examination of the area, gathering evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.
UPDATE @ 18:00 – The cordon has now been removed, however Police remain in the area.
