Police have cordoned off a section of the Esplanade in Sandown following an incident during the early hours of this morning (Saturday) which has left blood on the pavement.
It was just gone midnight that officers first arrived on scene outside the entrance to Sandown Pier.
It’s understood an individual was found in an injured state.
A cordon was swiftly established around the potential crime scene, with officers keeping guard throughout the night.
The area to the front of the pier remains locked down as investigations continue, although the pier is open as usual.
Blood is evident next to a can of beer.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has been approached for a statement.
UPDATE @ 10:36 – Police have confirmed that a man in his 30s has been hospitalised after sustaining a head injury.
The force was alerted to an altercation on the Esplanade at 23:49 last night, with officers arriving on scene a short time later to locate an injured male.
Enquiries into the incident are ongoing. No arrests have been made.
