Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of a fatal crash that claimed the life of a woman in her 70s back in June, with officers closing a road in Bembridge to reconstruct part of the incident today (Wednesday).
The mainland-based Roads Policing Unit have been carrying out brake testing of a similar-sized trailer to that involved in the fatal 8th June crash on The Downs, near Knighton.
A trailer laden with a robotic cutting machine became detached from the Land Rover towing it, colliding head-on with a taxi travelling in the opposite direction. The female fare-paying passenger died at the scene, with the taxi driver airlifted to Southampton General Hospital with serious injuries.
Today, part of Sandown Road, near to Bembridge Airport, has been closed for a partial reconstruction. A Police vehicle has towed a trailer at speed, conducting a variety of tests to assist with the ongoing investigations.
The road was selected after being deemed suitable for the tests and being a quieter road to close than The Downs.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary says there are no updates to provide at this time.
