Police and paramedics are dealing with a single vehicle road traffic collision on a main road in Wootton this morning (Saturday).
Emergency service personnel were first called to the scene on Park Road at around 10:30, following reports of a single vehicle scooter accident.
The scooter in question – which has ‘L’ plates on it – has come to rest off the road in a ditch.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has mobilised a single ambulance crew to the scene as well as a Critical Care Paramedic and Operational Commander.
At the scene, the female rider is being tended to in the back of an ambulance having been quickly lifted from the side of the road.
Park Road is currently blocked between its junctions with Lushington Hill and Wootton Common Crossroads.
Traffic heading from Racecourse onto Lushington Hill is also blocked.
The closed roads are expected to reopen shortly.
UPDATE @ 12:30 – All closed roads have reopened and the injured rider has been taken to St Mary’s Hospital.
Police have confirmed that the rider suffered a serious leg injury.

I hope you have a swift recovery and don’t give up the riding.
Do scooter riders ever take a test,
the island seems to be full of scooterists
with L plates on.
Might be a good idea if they take a test before being allowed
to ride on roads.
Car drivers have to take a test first or drive with a
professional passed motorist.
Yeah, obviously learner scooter riders should always take a professional passed motorcyclist with them… (on a bike made for one)
Knowing that junction, (as I do, very well), I wouldn’t be surprised if a car pulled out in front of them & they swerved to avoid it…
(yes it is just speculating I know, but that junciton can be difficut to pull out of as, when you are waiting to to pull-out & turn right, there are road signs which obscure most of the view of the traffic coming down lushington hill.)
