A dog grooming business with services including bathing, drying and clipping may open in an Isle of Wight seaside town.
Nicola Butler of Coastal Canine Spa Co. is asking County Hall for permission to establish a studio within a timber garden cabin at 12 Magdalen Crescent in Cowes.
The premises would operate on an ‘appointment-only’ basis involving one dog at a time and a maximum of 3 to 4 per day.
Proposed opening hours are from 09:00 to 17:30 on Monday to Friday and 09:00 until 13:00 on Saturdays.
A submitted Planning Statement says:
“The appointment‑only model ensures no overlapping visits and no increase in on‑street parking demand as clients would be able to make use of the property off street parking spaces.
“The proposed development is modest, well‑designed, and fully compatible with the residential character of the area.
“It supports local economic activity, protects residential amenity, and aligns with both adopted and emerging Isle of Wight planning policies.”
County Hall’s public consultation on application 26/00248/FUL closes on 7th April and a decision is expected on 24th April.

The flood gates have opened now with hair dressers etc working from garden sheds. Council won’t be able to refuse other garden enterprises fot fear of loosing at appeal.
Hope for fairness they’re charged similar business rates as high st premises, and they hold public liability insurance, health and safety inspections and of course an approved First Aid Kit
