A planning application has been submitted to transform a former car wash site in Newport into a total of 10 new homes, including flats and houses, with associated parking, bin and cycle storage.
The scheme, proposed by Mr Michael Jerram, seeks to redevelop the site at 36 Trafalgar Road by converting the existing industrial building into 6 1-bedroom self-contained units and 1 2-bedroom flat. In addition, 3 2-bedroom terraced houses would be constructed on adjoining land fronting West Street.
The brownfield site, which sits at the corner of Trafalgar Road and West Street, previously operated as a hand car wash.
As part of the proposal, 12 off-street parking spaces would be created along with secure, covered cycle storage and dedicated bin storage for all properties. The design incorporates pitched roofs and traditional materials to reflect the local character.
According to the submitted design and access statement, the development has been designed to meet identified demand for smaller, more affordable homes on the Isle of Wight.
Each of the proposed properties would be constructed to modern energy efficiency standards.
The developer also states that the project would deliver a biodiversity net gain on-site, with no impact on protected species identified.
