PIER TO PIER ROWING MARATHON RETURNS AFTER 2-YEAR BREAK

Following a 2-year hiatus, the historic Pier to Pier Rowing marathon returned to Sandown Bay this year, with 9 Shanklin-Sandown Rowing club crews racing from the site of the old Shanklin Pier to and from Sandown Pier.

With competitors ranging from 11-60 years of age, club members raced across 2 divisions on a handicap timing system. This made for some close racing, particularly over the shorter course in division 2.

The winning crew on this occasion were the Mixed Novice combination of Ollie Hatch, Ben Smith, Frances Katirewa, Roxy Browne and Jane Bailey (Cox) with Louis Sheasby and Carter Horrix taking the win in the second division.

Club captain Garry Walters, presenting the trophies and prizes to the winners, thanked all those taking part and volunteering and gave a special mention to the J13 quad who were competing for their first time.

SSRC crews now look ahead to Reading Small Boats Head on 9th October and Itchen Junior Regatta later this month.
