PEDESTRIAN STRUCK BY MOTORCYCLE WHILST CROSSING THE ROAD IN APSE HEATH

A collision between a motorcycle and a pedestrian at the roundabout in Apse Heath has led to an emergency response by Police and paramedics this evening (Monday). Multiple resources – including a fire appliance from Shanklin – are on scene outside Raj’s Premier convenience store on the main Sandown to Newport Road. Island Echo understands the pedestrian was crossing the road to reach a nearby bus stop when they were struck by a passing motorcycle. The incident occurred at around 19:30. Thankfully, no serious injuries have been sustained but the road is currently closed to traffic. UPDATE @ 20:50 – The road has now reopened in both directions, but a small area of the carriageway remains coned off due to a fuel spill. Island Roads has been alerted to the spillage. The motorcycle involved has been moved to a nearby car park. Paramedics have conveyed the casualty to St Mary’s Hospital.
