A pedestrian has been rushed to hospital after being struck by a car in Sandown this evening (Monday).
It was shortly before 18:30 that emergency services responded to the scene on Perowne Way, outside the local shop.
Island Echo understands a male pedestrian was struck by a black BMW 1-Series.
Impact damage can be seen to the windscreen of the BMW, indicating the forces involved.
The male has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport where further assessments are taking place.
Police have cordoned off the scene of the crash whilst awaiting an update from doctors as to the extent of the casualty’s condition.
Perowne Way in Sandown has been closed in both directions with all traffic being diverted via Yaverland – due to the ongoing closure of Avenue Road for Network Rail works.
