The Our Island political group is holding regular Zoom meetings in a bid to attract new faces and ideas, as the group hopes to win seats on the Isle of Wight Council and on Parish and Town Councils this May.
Digital meetings are being held every Monday at 19:00 to discuss issues and to help people understand the current system and why it is ‘failing’ so that they can help to change it.
On Monday (15th February), Our Island will have a panel of current councillors who will be able to answer questions about how the Council works and to share their experiences to help and encourage people to come forward to help build something better.
Pauline Evans, the Our Island candidate for Sandown South, said:
“We all know the current system is failing but we can’t change things without new people who are willing to stand to become Councillors and others who are willing to provide support for the work that is necessary to get people elected.
“Our Monday meetings are a great forum for people to find out what is involved. One of the main problems that we face is the fact that the current system is shrouded in mystery for many and operates to protect the position of the national political parties and the patriarchy they seek to maintain. We need more young people and women to come forward to bring some sense into our local government. People need to come forward if they want their interests to be represented.
“Our Island wants to help and encourage people to understand the system so that they feel able to come forward. The Monday sessions provide a friendly forum free of party political bickering where people can listen, learn and ask questions in a supportive atmosphere”.

Many people who voice their opinion on this platform appear to want change to the current council and status quo. This sounds like the perfect opportunity to get involved and have your voices heard !
