Ian ‘Knocka’ Dore, one of the Island DJs that played at the very first Bestival, will be returning to spin the wheels of steel this weekend.
Ian, who moved to Bath to front up the Bath FM breakfast show, has had a couple of years off the Bestival decks but is chuffed to be back.
Speaking about his return to Bestival for 2013, Ian Dore said:
“I’m incredibly lucky. I was honoured to be asked first time around and presumably because I didn’t mess it up I got to play the subsequent 5 events!
“The first year I was in the Bollywood Tent just before Zoe Ball and ended up interviewing Fatboy Slim. Year 2 and I was awestruck by the view from the main stage as I spun between acts on the Friday and a bit on the Sunday. I’m happy to admit this, when you walk out to a sea of heads, putting the needle on the record takes concentration and the nerves of pressure did kick in.
“Year 3 I was back on the main stage and Year 4 the Big Top. Year 5 was the last time playing and that was in the hidden disco. All the gigs were a great and varied experience, reflective of what Bestival is all about.
“This year I’m back for the 10 anniversary and i’m in the Comedy Tent on Thursday night at 11pm. Rob ( Da Bank ) has asked for ‘Freestyle Uptempo’ tunes, so I get to dig deep into the record collection. It’s also cool being in the same arena as Phill Jupitus who is an Island grown legend but I’ll do the tunes, and they can do the gags.”
Ian is playing (possibly as Park of Dead alter ego, Commander Mason) tonight at 23:00 in the Comedy Tent.
