UPDATED: Fire crews from Newport are this evening (Friday) attending a road traffic collision on the A3054 Forest Road on the outskirts of Newport in which one person has become trapped.
Two vehicles have collided on the S-Bend near to Lower Watching Well, according to an Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue spokesperson. Emergency services were called to the scene shortly before 19:50.
Firefighters are currently in the process of extricating one person from their vehicle with the assistance of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
The road has been closed by Police at the junction with Elm Lane, Shalfleet and the junction with Betty Haunt Lane, Newport.
UPDATE @ 21:05 – Fire crews have successfully freed a male trapped inside one of the vehicles involved in this evening’s collision.
Both appliances have now left the scene and returned to station.
A second person, also male, has been injured in the incident, however the severity of their condition is currently unknown. Both men have been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport by land ambulance.
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance was called to the scene.
