OLLIE TAKES 3 TITLES DURING NEWPORT’S CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS WEEKEND

A total of 47 players stepped out onto the green to take part in Newport Golf Club’s club championships over the weekend of 27th/28th July.

The scratch champion with rounds of 75 on Saturday and 70 on Sunday was Ollie Wilson. Ollie beat Chris Haywood by a single stroke and Darren Masterton by a further stroke.

Impressively, Ollie also picked up the handicap championship with a nett total of 137 beating Tom Caddy on countback and Nick Matthews by a stroke. Furthermore, Ollie also picked up the Westridge Cup (handicaps 0 to 12)

The Hewitt cup winner (handicaps 13 to 28) was Steve Gilbert with a gross 143.

The birdie trophy was won by Darren Masterton with 6 birdies over the weekend.

Nick Matthews picked up the Junior Championship.
