A 19-year-old drink driver was caught by Police as he went to pick up a Domino’s pizza for him and his girlfriend, a court has heard.
Bradley Simmonds, of Jeals Lane in Sandown, pleaded guilty to drink driving when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week (Tuesday).
Liz Miller, prosecuting, told the court that on the evening of 12th August, Police in an unmarked vehicle were patrolling along Regent Street looking for people trying to break into vehicles.
Unrelated to those efforts, Simmonds on his blue Yamaha Moped shot out in front of the officers and proceeded to weave in the middle of the road before turning right into Clarendon Road, driving through a no-entry sign and proceeding along the road.
The 19-year-old was stopped on nearby North Road where a roadside breath test was conducted. A reading of 55 was returned – above the legal limit of 35.
Simmonds was arrested and taken to Newport Police Station.
Defending, Oscar Vincent told the court that Simmonds had ordered pizza from Domino’s for him and his girlfriend in what Simmonds thought was a romantic gesture. The pair had been drinking at a hotel in Shanklin and were hungry so ordered some food. Simmonds thought he felt okay to drive there to collect it.
The pizza was paid for but never picked up.
Magistrates handed the 19-year-old Simmonds a 15-month driving ban, stating that they hoped this had taught him a lesson. He was also ordered to pay a £150 fine, £85 costs and a £60 surcharge fee.

Wouldn’t a delivery be a romantic gester, get his partner to open the door when he knocks
They don’t deliver to Shanklin
He lives in sandown
Yes they do, Dominos are located in Shanklin
A very costly slice of life
Throw the book at the idiot and a 5 year ban to Stop Numpty’s like this
re-offending.
Drink driving should be mandatory 3 year ban at least, that would be a lesson better taught.
I’ll wager the Police picked up the pizza as ‘evidence’
At least the neighbours get some respite from his stupidly loud exhaust.
