A section of Ashey Road in Ryde will NOT close as expected today (Friday) following a second delay to the next phase of works at Smallbrook Roundabout.
For the past few weeks, utility companies have been redirecting their services so the new roundabout layout can be built next year. One element of this utility work requires the diversion of BT Openreach infrastructure.
It was originally planned that BT would carry out works in the area from Monday 13th to Friday 17th, but it was announced last week that the work was delayed and would take place from today (Friday 17th) until Tuesday 21st December.
Island Roads has now confirmed that the work will not be taking place until next year due to the workforce testing positive for COVID. However, the PFI contractor say they are confident this rescheduling will not affect the overall duration of the scheme.
It was also originally planned that all traffic restrictions in the area would be removed over the festive period between 24th December and 4th January, but it is understood this may no longer be the case.
Island Roads say they are currently looking at traffic arrangements at this junction over the Christmas and New Year period when work is paused, with an intention to have as little traffic management as safety allows.
The scheme is set to continue until April 2022.
More incompetence, the Vctorians built canals and railways, which are still in use……..
The only incompetence is on the people treating covid like a cold and refusing to have the jab and wear a mask. Then the covidiots wonder why the supermarket shelves are bare, the trains are cancelled and why there is no petrol at the station.
Sorry, but which supermarket shelves are bare and which petrol stations have run out? Just so we know…
Or are you talking about something which happened months ago?
are you thick?makes no difference what sheep measures you do fool…YOU STILL GET IT!
moronic cold is being used for a 10 day skive for most .thats if its true
BT are useless
While Island Roads are looking at traffic arrangements at Smallbrook, will they have time to fix the broken bulb in the brand new lights on Coppins Bridge?
Yeah they are sending 4 vans and 8 people and one lane will be closed for 2 weeks to change the bulb
Could be that BT are a bit busy at Arreton due to someone demolishing the internet cabinet.
“work will not be taking place until next year due to the workforce testing positive for COVID” Is that the whole of their workforce??
Island Roads seriously need to get their act together at the moment. Too many diversions with conflicting instructions are causing chaos. This Smallbrook Junction scheme must be prioritised one way of the other as it’s forcing people either through Ashey or over the Downs, both dangerous routes and notorious for accidents at the best of times. Road closure signs this week said ‘from 9.30’ but closed before 8 forcing people back over the downs and traffic coming from Wootton towards Havenstreet had a road closure at Wootton Roundabout when the actual closure was PAST the Havenstreet turnoff. IR website had contradictory instruction also.WHY?
