Victory over Ventnor 3rds has confirmed Newport Cricket Club’s 1st team as Isle of Wight Division 1 winners.
Valuable runs from Tom Keyzor (38), Louis Payne (27), Luke Chessell (53) and a destructive (70) from Harry Dye saw the Port reach another decent 1st innings score of 225.
In reply, Ventnor 3rds started well with Gary Cooper (40) and Souvik Sanyal (36), but 3 wickets from Aaron Hartup and tight bowling from Adam Wilson and youngsters Max Poynter and Olly Pease stemmed the runs to see the County Town club secure yet another victory.
Newport have gone unbeaten in every game this year, earning a 2nd league and cup double in row.
Gareth Bricknell (club captain) has said:
“It has been an incredibly successful season for all involved with Newport Cricket Club. In our 1st whole season at our new home Newclose County Cricket Ground, we have achieved 3 trophies on the field with our 1st and 2nd XIs, as well as more developments as a club.
“We have a very healthy number of colts from all stars/dynamos starting at aged 5 through the age groups to our u15s, as well as the introduction of our ladies team.
“Not only that, I’m proud to be a part of a fantastic group of volunteers and players that keep grass roots sport going and allow so many people to enjoy playing sport.”
