Newport IW FC’s Under 15s squad have made it through to the Hampshire Saturday Under 15s Cup final following a 4-0 win over MFC Popley.
The Island side travelled to Basingstoke on Saturday to face a strong Popley line-up, who last season knocked Newport out in the first round. But Popley were not on form for the semi final tie.
The first half was pretty even with both sides creating chances, but it was Newport who broke the deadlock through Ben Snow with 5 minutes of the first half remaining.
The second half started very much the same as the first, then it was Popley who started to get more into the game and Newport were on the back foot. After 15 minutes of the second half came the turning point, when the Newport keeper brought down the Popley striker and the striker hit the post from the resulting penalty. It was Newport who then took control and scored at the right times through a brace from Jake Wright.
Ben Snow rounded off a good Newport performance by taking the ball round the Popley keeper and slotting in to an empty net to make the final score 4-0 to Newport.
Newport will play Havant & Waterlooville in the final, the date and venue of the final is not yet known.
