A Newport woman who was stopped in her vehicle by Police just a short distance from her home was found to be under the influence of cannabis at the time.
Jennifer Clark, 46, of West Street in Newport, pleaded guilty to drug driving (cannabis) when she appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Friday (9th June).
Liz Miller, prosecuting, told the court that on the afternoon of 10th January, at around 15:25, on-duty Police officers saw Clark in her Ford C-Max travelling along Drill Hall Road. They had previously received information from a member of the public that the 46-year-old was under the influence of cannabis.
Clark was stopped nearby on West Street where she admitted that she had taken some cannabis. She also admitted that she was a daily user.
A roadside drugs wipe was conducted which returned a positive result. Clark was taken to Newport Police Station where a blood sample was taken. It returned a reading of 3.0ug/l – the legal limit is 2.0ug/l.
Defending, Oscar Vincent, said that Clark had shown no evidence of bad driving before she was stopped and that the mother-of-2 suffered from a variety of medical issues and used cannabis during periods of intense pain.
Magistrates handed Clark a 12-month driving ban. She was also ordered to pay a fine of £120, costs of £85 and a victim surcharge fee of £48.

What about the children, clearly IE thought important as put in headline. Was a safeguarding referral completed? Clearly a worry that a mother is doped up each day using vehicle and minding children. I pity them.
I believe it’s standard procedure
46 years of age, should know better.
whoever snitched should get a hobby
She only uses it when in intense pain but she said she smokes it every day
The defence ‘said that Clark had shown no evidence of bad driving before she was stopped’. But would she have been able to act quickly and safely in an emergency situation, being under the influence? I doubt it very much.
Another one of the snort/swill/smack waste of space scum on our roads endangering our lives. They should get life time driving bans and a prison sentence and a massive fine for such a criminal offense. The Island is full of them now. It’s time to do spot checks on the roaring pop banging boy racers too. Checks for drugs, booze, insurance cover for the modernised cars, tax, license and mot and a speed trap. A good place to start would be Ryde Esplanade, bloody row going on all day long.
Just another sad pot head 46 and a dope head lol mind you that’s young on the island
What about people who are driving around out of their heads on prescribed meds? I bet there is a ton of them all over the island. What about old people who can’t perform a simple shoulder check? They are just as dangerous. No matter how many the courts ban, it’ll never stop. One more thing, are police officers tested for drugs in their system on a regular random basis?
In so much pain but is still able to drive, yet another poor excuse.
I’m in pain reading her excuse, a spell in prison is the answer.
This idiot could have killed someone.
Roads will never be safe while we let such persons on our Roads.
