30-year-old Kieran Thompson has been sentenced to 6 months in prison after assaulting a police officer and committing multiple shop thefts across the Isle of Wight.
Thompson, of Westminster Lane in Newport, appeared before Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court on 9th October, where he admitted a string of offences including assaulting an emergency worker and stealing hundreds of pounds worth of goods from retailers in Newport and East Cowes.
On 8th October, Thompson assaulted PC Worsfold while the officer was carrying out his duties in Newport. The assault resulted in 2 charges – common assault of an emergency worker and assault of a constable in the execution of his duty – which he pleaded guilty to.
In addition to the assaults, Thompson admitted 4 separate thefts.
On 30th September, he stole an air fryer and 2 bottles of vodka worth £72 from Morrisons in Newport. Just 2 weeks later, he went on to steal a coat valued at £99 from TK Maxx in Newport. On the same day, he also stole 7 bottles of whiskey valued at £351.55 from Waitrose in East Cowes.
Magistrates ruled that the offences were so serious that only immediate custody could be justified, citing Thompson’s history of similar offending.
Thompson was handed a custodial sentence of 6 months. No compensation was awarded due to the defendant’s limited means.
Anyone assaulting Emergency services employees
needs banging up.
They must be taught right from wrong.
