
Newport Cricket Club have won the Isle of Wight Senior Cup by beating Arreton by 200 runs at Newclose on Saturday (12th August).
After losing the toss and being put into bat, Newport put on 266 runs in their 45 overs for the loss of 9 wickets. Adam Wilson top-scored for the County Town club with 117 before being clean bowled by Gary Cooper. He was supported by Ash Brett, who made 47 before being caught by Eccott off the bowling of Tarrant.
Rob Wilson was the pick of the Arreton bowlers, taking 3 wickets for 45 runs. Gary Cooper (2-72) and Kevin Tarrant (2-53) both took braces of wickets for the village team.
Arreton could only score 66 runs in reply before being skittled out in the 24th over. Tony Blaize top-scored with just 18 runs.
It was the bowling of Glenn Lovegrove that did the damage for Newport, taking 6 wickets for just 10 runs.

“Really pleased to secure the IOW Senior Cup again for our club. As a captain it’s great to have a side with a mix of youth, experience, lots of quality; as well as being top lads both on and off the pitch.
“Special mention to Adam Wilson’s amazing 117 when we were under early pressure, as well as Glen Lovegrove’s fantastic 6 wickets.
