Wight Tri member and novice triathlete, Blue Pike, recently took on the London Classics Triple Challenge, despite undergoing spinal surgery at the end of December 2020.
After husband Dean secured his sizeable London Classics medal in 2020, his wife Blue decided to try for one as well.
This challenge is run by London Marathon Events and consists of completing the Ride London 100-mile cycle, the 2-mile Serpentine Swim and the 26.2-mile London Marathon Run, in order to achieve the auspicious London Classics Medal.
Blue had already completed the 100-mile Ride London in 2015 in a time of 6hrs 20mins but then in September 2021, she added the 2-mile open water Swim Serpentine in 3hrs 2mins, which was even more amazing as she couldn’t swim front crawl a few weeks beforehand. But being the determined person that she is, Blue taught herself front crawl a few weeks beforehand in order to complete the swim.
The final instalment was to complete the London Marathon. Blue entered the official London Marathon Virtual Event in October and completed the marathon distance in a very commendable 5hrs 10mins, with Team Pike (husband Dean and their 3 children Dexter, Zoli and Reznor) cheering her over the finish line.
The Pikes are thought to be the first married couple on the Island to gain the prestigious London Classics Triple achievement.
