Newport IOW Cricket Club 2nd XI won the IWCB 2nd XI Cup by beating Ventnor 3rds in the final at Newclose by 61 runs on Saturday (29th July).
Newport won the toss and elected to bat. The County Town club put on 211 runs in their 35 overs for the loss of 7 wickets. S. Steinmetz top-scored with a knock of 46 before being clean bowled by Oscar Purser. Paul Attrill (39), Bertie Adkins (35 not out), Louis Payne (27) and Ryan Young (26) also contributed to the Newport innings.
Akshay Harikumar was the pick of the Ventnor bowlers, taking 3 wickets for 43 runs. Toby Morgan (2-21) and Oscar Purser (2-33) both picked up braces for the South Wight side.
Ventnor reached 150 all out in reply. Akshay Harikumar was the stand out batsman, putting on 62 before being caught by Seinmetz off the bowling of Olly Pease. He was supported by captain Mark Price, who scored 43 before being clean bowled by Steinmetz.
Olly Pease was the best of the Newport bowlers, taking 3 wickets at the cost of 30 runs. Max Poynter (2-3), Louis Payne (2-19) and S. Steinmetz (2-29) all picked up braces for the County Town club.
Newport 2nds 211/7 Ventnor 3rds 150 all out Newport won by 61 runs.
