Residents from Orchard House Care Home in Newport have enjoyed having their wishes granted by staff.
Back in January residents were asked what special wish they would like to come true during the year. These wishes were written down on golden stars and displayed for all to see. As the year is progressing, so too are there wishes, and they are being granted, much to the delight of the residents.
Some residents had requested particular places that they would like to go, such as a farm visit or a trip to the beach and grab an ice cream, whilst others chose an experience that they would like, such as stroking a parrot or a donkey.
Orchard House welcomed Isle of Wight Parrot rescue into the home to allow one of its residents, Lillian, to meet and stroke the parrots, and John had a trip to the Donkey Sanctuary where he stroked a donkey, much to his delight.
Then there were the residents that wanted to share some special time with their loved ones and go on a “date”. A private dining experience at lunchtime was organised, a 3-course meal complete with roses and heart confetti. Both Malcolm and John really appreciated this special time with their wives, and requested a repeat of this experience.
Kim Fleming, General Manager, said
“We are dedicated to person centred care, and it is wonderful to be able to offer residents their special requests. The smiles on their face say it all.”
Malcolm, resident, said:
“It has been so wonderful to have this private dinner, the table looked lovely and the food was delicious, it was also my wife’s birthday which made it extra special”.
There are still more wishes to be granted by the Orchard House Fairy Godmother Team.
