A cheque for £800 has been presented by Newchurch residents to Victoria Dunford of MAD-Aid for its Ukraine appeal.
£400 was donated at the recent Big Jubilee Lunch – organised by Newchurch Parish Council and All Saints Church – by those partaking of the free refreshments. A further £200 was raised by Newchurch Horticultural Society through sales of plants.
All Saints Church contributed an additional £200 as part of the proceeds from a Jubilee concert by Newchurch Male Voice Choir.
Newchurch Parish Council Chairman Roy Bevan has said:
“The Big Jubilee Lunch gave an opportunity for all residents of Newchurch Parish to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee together. Given the huge effort made by the team of Councillors assisted by family and friends to distribute flyers and prepare the buffet, we were delighted that residents from all corners of the Parish, from Apse Manor to Knighton and from Whiteley Bank to Mersley, were in attendance.
“All involved were very pleased to be able to raise funds for such a worthy cause as the East Cowes-based MAD-Aid Ukraine appeal, and surplus food from the buffet was passed to the local Food Bank and the Salvation Army.”
