NEWCHURCH COLLISION RESULTS IN VILLAGE CLOSURE

imageUPDATED: All routes leading into the village of Newchurch have been closed by Police this afternoon (Friday) following a road traffic collision.

Two vehicles – a van and a car – have been involved in what has been described as a minor collision, however one person is said to be trapped inside their vehicle.

Two appliances from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have been called to the incident, however reports suggest they are struggling to make headway through the traffic down the tight country lanes.

The incident occurred at just before 15:20 on The Shute.

UPDATE @ 16:23 – A 14-year-old girl has been freed from a vehicle following concerns over possible spinal injuries.

Firefighters have removed the roof of the car to safely extricate the teenager, who has been left in the scene of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.

Motorists should continue to avoid the area, using Godshill to travel to and from Newport.

UPDATE @ 17:35 – The road has reopened. Traffic is now able to access Newchurch.
