A power cut has plunged parts of Newport into darkness tonight (New Year’s Day), with over 600 properties currently without electricity.
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) has confirmed that a total of 682 customers across 35 postcodes in the PO30 area have been affected following a fault on the underground network.
The outage has hit the Hunnyhill area, with parts of Lugley Street and Sylvan Drive also without power.
Power was lost at 20:19 and engineers are being sent to investigate the cause, but there is currently no estimated time for supplies to be restored.
UPDATE @ 20:36 – Engineers are due on site by 20:40, however, it is currently estimated that power will not be restored until 01:00.
UPDATE @ 21:02 – SSEN is now in attendance at Albany Road.
Whilst power has been restored to some properties, around 400 remain in darkness.
Residents can expect no supply, or intermittent supply, until 01:00.
