A new Neighbourhood Watch scheme has been established in a busy residential area of Ryde.
Local resident Stuart Brown, a former member of the Metropolitan Police, has just launched the scheme in the Ryde West ward – which covers the fringes of Binstead and into areas of town such as Green Street, as well as southwards towards Haylands.
Stuart, who is also currently campaigning to represent Ryde West on Ryde Town Council, spotted the need for such a scheme after talking with local residents.
He said:
“Talking to other local residents it is clear that I am not the only one that has seen a recent unwelcome trend in the rise of anti-social behaviour and crime in the community.
“I was surprised that no such scheme is currently active in the area so I have started one now to improve the relationship between the community and the police and strengthen the ties which will enable us to be proactive in stopping the current issues.”
Ryde West Neighbourhood Watch is looking for members and people to take an active role. Registration with the scheme for updates, or to play an active role, can be made via the national page https://www.ourwatch.org.uk/. You can also head over to the local Facebook Page at fb.me/RydeWestNW.

Another toothless, curtain twitching bunch, with the ‘aid’ of an equally toothless ‘community P.C’ who meets up, advises more cameras, and alarms, whilst the yobs respect neither.
These community P.C’s waste of money, only around in the day, and then sit in parish council offices or with this type, supping tea, instead of being out at night.
Most low life are known already by first name to the police, but the sentence is pathetic, the police know it, the low life know it, so nothing is ever done.
