The launch of the Isle of Wight Council’s new £765,000 website has been delayed after already being plagued with COVID-19 related setbacks.
While progress has been made on the website, and the project moves into the 3rd phase, it was already 18 months behind schedule.
The task of building the new website started in 2020 and just 3 months in the COVID pandemic struck.
The aim of launching a development, or Beta, site by September 2020 was then no longer feasible as the project team was redirected to help the pandemic response.
Now, with the project up and going again, the Beta site has been launched with councillors shown the new site but the ‘go live’ date to the general public has been delayed, due to issues outside the project’s control.

One of the reasons was the recent major firewall upgrade which saw the council’s current website and other IT systems stop working last weekend. Much preparation work was needed for that, Ms Shand said, so all the information on the systems was kept secure, particularly in light of an increase in cyber security threats to local authorities.
The other reason for the delay was due to the council’s waste contractor, Amey, changing which company acts as its contact centre and the resulting clash in timescales.
Feedback from the Beta site testing, was said to be very promising.
Ms Shand told the committee she was feeling positive about the project and hoped it could go from strength to strength, continuously improving the site as feedback from the public is received.

And here we go again!!!!
Wasting more of our money….
Not happy with their fleet of (not so green electric cars)
Or their super air conditioning!!!!
Oh and nobody mention the elephant in the room !!!!!
The bain of all us mere cash cow’s ….the non floating heap of dung !!!!!!
Their pension pot’s !!!!!
They are carrying on with this over inflated cost for a new computer system !!!!!
Meanwhile food banks are struggling to help people eat ,,,, after the cost of living increases….
And Council Tax…..increases….
Total disrespect for the rest of the human race !!!!!
Parasites is an understatement!!!!
Time for a revolution.
funny how the council can get your council tax bills out on time and can get a fully functioning payment system in place in minutes for you to pay them, but anything else is a complete mess and takes ages – on purpose by the looks of it
And extra slow in giving us our £150 rebate. When are non direct debit payers going to get it?
when are the direct debit payers going to get their £150
We haven’t got ours yet and we are direct debit !!!!!!
Totally useless @ paying us !!!!
But should we owe them anything ….
Perhaps they are waiting for their super over inflated priced computer system ???????
You forgot to mention that giving themselves a pay rise is always on time.
Oh, you mean like the Council tax refunds they are supposed to be issuing. Advised by Westminster in February, believe, funds were released to them in March, and yet, we are told it might be sometime late April or May, and possibly (almost guaranteed actually) MUCH later than that before we get our money!
I’m not on direct debit, and expect I will get the refund mid term of financial year if not right at the end. Should it not come mid term may try contacting local MP.
As always, Why so, so expensive? a half reasonable web site should cost nothing like that. Is it so complicated in its content. if so why? Who was this web site constructor ? More importantly was this job put out to tender as it should have been ? Web sites aint rocket science.
The tender process for this contract should be put in the public domain, as the cost does seem incredibly high.
It would be interesting to know what the company who built the website had to offer against other contenders, and why the price is in excess of three-quarters of a million pounds, and still not ready.
Public enquiry is due here – how much and what for.
Delayed due to COVID related issues, did it have a virus!?!
Is this going to be a repeat of floaty 6
Isn’t it strange that everything the council has anything to do with, turns out to be a money wasting balls up, that us mugs end up getting ripped off to cop the bill for? Amazing too, that we never get to know who caused it, because it is always covered up.
No website can plausibly cost that much to create. Someone is on the take for sure here. There should be s proper independent investigation into this totally ridiculous waste of OUR money.
Another waste of money.
Scrap the idea and lower council tax for everyone
sounds like the electronic version of the floating bridge fiasco, don’t worry about the costs as it is only the money extorted from the working population who don’t matter anyway.
Is this exceptionally overpriced website being designed by the Floaty McRubbish Ferry company?
Wasn’t the same people sorting out Floating Bridge was it?
Government contracts are a licence to print money. I could develop a far better website (and have done) for one 10th of the price. It’s a joke.
