The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have attended a kitchen fire in Binstead this evening (Saturday) where a person has been taken to safety by a neighbour.
Crews from Newport and Ryde – three appliances in total – were called to the scene on Jellicoe Road near to Binstead Road at 10:10 after receiving reports of a kitchen fire at a terraced property.
Island Echo understands the occupant of the house fell asleep whilst cooking dinner before being rescued by a neighbour, who also extinguished the stove fire ahead of the firefighter’s arrival.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have also attended the scene and have checked over both persons involved.
Newport firefighters were quickly stood down, with Ryde’s crews leaving the scene around 35 minutes later.
A similar but more serious incident happened a few years ago at the same address, as pictured to the left. The homeowner was rescued by a different neighbour on that occasion also.
