The driver of an American muscle car has wiped out a Belisha beacon and smashed into a parked vehicle in Sandown this evening (Thursday).
It was at around 19:00 that the maroon-coloured Ford Mustang ploughed into street furniture at the start of the High Street – a one-way road in a 30mph limit.
The vehicle is understood to have then veered across the road and into the side of a red Peugeot 107, shunting the vehicle onto the pavement.
Island Echo is told that it is the second time today that the distinctive vehicle has been involved in a crash.
Island Roads is now inspecting the damage to bollards, a bin and a Belisha beacon.
Sandown High Street was closed for a time but has since reopened.
UPDATE FRIDAY – Police have confirmed that a 37-year-old man has been arrested for drug driving.

Doesn’t surprise me the way vehicles are allowed to
speed along such streets.
Time to invest in speed cameras
Speed cameras on every road, fifty yards apart. Go back to sleep.
Yes speed cameras on every road like they have in
the big smoke.
It is the only way to stop B’stards speeding.
Please please please let the Mustang be ok. Beautiful cars. They are rare cars and should be cherished.
He obviously didn’t cherish the beautiful car? What an idiot?
Not this one think…
Crush the car.
What these 20 year old ones?
Hope the cars a right off serve him right for driving while drugged up.
Until this country gets tough with drink and drug drivers,
our roads will NEVER be safe!
Bang the Numpty up and throw away the key, could
have killed INNOCENT people.
Tho what if they were not innocent? Our quality government tells us we are surrounded by pedos, terrorists and ILLEGAL immigrants. He could have wiped a few of them out and made our streets safer!
Food for thought Mr Soapbox
