A 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving after smashing into street furniture and a parked car in Sandown last night (Thursday).
As first reported by Island Echo, it was just before 19:00 that the maroon-coloured Ford Mustang ploughed into bollards, a bin and a Belisha beacon at the start of the High Street.
The Mustang then veered across the road and into the side of a red Peugeot 107, shunting the car onto the pavement.
Island Echo is told that it was the second crash of the day for the Mustang.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed the driver, a 37-year-old man from Cowes, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drug driving.
He has been released under investigation while further enquiries continue.

Happy to donate to a fund for the Peugeot 107 owner’s repairs or replacement caused by another silly “look at me” drug driven vehicle.
There was a diesel spillage that caused the accident. Now who feels silly?
You, he has drugs in his system
Are you sure about the diesel? If you lose the back end, which may have happened here, steer into the skid, prevents you going over to the other side of the road. Seen it time and time again, over the years. But in the high street twenty’s plenty. Well even too much.
He’s still a big man knob head he obviously drives like a tool to showoff also police most probably know of him.
When travelling at a reasonable speed , one can drive through diesel slicks without any issues…Heavy right foot and the rear wheels will loose all grip and hence control of direction- think ‘skid pan’
How many other cars crashed due to the alleged diesel? Oh, none. Odd that
So true. Including me.
You mean he stepped the rear end out on the roundabout. Rear end went a bit more than he wanted it to. Hes tryed to accelerate out of it lost his talent and hits a post then shoots across the road into a car.
Diesel spillage is just a another way to say he run out of talent!!
The driver was arrested as he failed a drugs test. Now who feels sillier?
I was behind this wanker last week speeding up slowing done revving up to cars total scumbag glad he’s finally smashed his ride up.Poor sod in other car now written off.Has to find another and show it on insurance for next 5 years at higher costs while he gets fuck all.
Bang on
My car was recently hit and written off while parked, luckily a note was left. As a not at fault accident my insurance won’t go up, I asked.
So hopefully theirs won’t be affected.
To an earlier statement, it doesn’t say he had drugs in his system so…
I’m not disputing he’s a nob head in his car, but why are they a scumbag
It’s about time island authorities addressed the
speeding problems on the island.
Sadiq Khan would run this island well.
20mph is plenty
Speed cameras everywhere will do the trick.
