UPDATED: MURDER ARREST AFTER DEATH OF 84-YEAR-OLD WOMAN IN RYDE

A murder investigation has been launched and an arrest made following the unexplained death of an 84-year-old woman at an address in Ryde. Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were called to a property on Wood Street yesterday lunchtime (Saturday), where concerns were raised about the unexplained nature of the death of an elderly female. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary attended the scene and has subsequently launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of an 84-year-old woman. This afternoon (Sunday), officers and detectives moved in on an address on Newcomen Road in Lake. It has been confirmed tonight that a 59-year-old man from Lake has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in police custody at Newport Police Station for questioning at this time. Police are maintaining a presence at both addresses in Ryde and Lake as investigations continue. UPDATE MONDAY – Police have confirmed that their 59-year-old suspect has been bailed.
