A 51-year-old man from Shanklin has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the unexpected death of a woman in her 50s from Cowes.
Island Echo understands that the 55-year-old woman was admitted to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport, where she sadly died last Thursday (4th April).
Concerns have been raised about her death, which has prompted an investigation to be launched by Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary.
Detectives are now working to establish the circumstances that led to the woman’s death and whether there are any associated offences.
Officers have been conducting door-to-door enquiries around the woman’s home address on Newport Road in Cowes, including obtaining CCTV from the nearby doctor’s surgery, as part of the ongoing investigation. The arrested 51-year-old suspect remains in custody at this time on suspicion of murder and engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour in an intimate or family relationship. It is thought he was arrested sometime on Friday evening or overnight into this morning.
