A motorcycle crash on the main Fairlee Road diversion route is causing significant delays this morning (Monday).
Police and Paramedics are on scene on Whiterails Road, following a collision involving a motorcycle.
The collision has occurred near Butterfly World. It is unclear whether any other vehicles have been involved.
Traffic in both directions – heading towards Newport and towards Wootton – is heavy.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area for the time being.

I love the comment that “Motorists are advised to avoid the area”
Just how,…
if you’re in the queue to get into newport, just how do you avoid being there….
(Perhaps you could do a U turn (without looking)… & hit a bilke that’s overtaking the traffic… )
There just wankers they haven’t a clue of life ..
And that’s if there is any other way you can go without hitting another road closure
My thoughts exactly . The other “ diversion route “ over downend and through backwater is now impacted by the one way system iy absolutely miserable trying to get into Newport at the moment
The gift that keeps giving..
I wonder what’s in store tomorrow?
2-1 vehicle on roof
7-2 Motorcycle involved in a crash
20MPH IS PLENTY
Who is actually responsible for all these road closures? IOW Council ultimately I assume?
Time we took them to task, and maybe get a freedom of information request for the person responsible for allowing the road closure permits. We need to make their life much more uncomfortable, as they are really causing damage to the Islands businesses and tourism.
I think you’ll find that under the terms of the PFI agreement, between the IWC & Island Roads, all responsibility for management of road closures was ceded to IR, & the council have no say in it.
it seems even the council are unhappy with IR’s management of road closures,..
see: https://www.islandecho.co.uk/calls-for-highways-pfi-review-after-firestone-copse-road-closure-questions/
Absolutely. Well said. The Council ultimately can give or refuse permission. Other countries force a strict time limit on disruptive works. The multimillion pound companies have to employ teams working round the clock. Why doesn’t our Council employ these methods?
Brown envelopes anyone??
Whilst all these road works are being carried out
motorcyclists should be banned from using these roads.
They are weaving in and out of traffic risking
accidents too happen.
you should be banned from making stupid comments
So many numpties don’t like to hear the truth.
You are actually a disgusting person aren’t you.
He’s an EV driver so mentally ill…
oh great,.. blame it on the motorcyclists…
sounds like you’re jealous of them being able to get there quicker…
of course motorcyclists should take care, and be aware of the risks in these situations, (most of them do, and are, as it’s their life on the line)..
but how about car drivers looking, when pulling out or changing lane…
IMHO all car drivers should have to take a bike test as well to get their licence (& ideally HGV course as well) … that way they may be a bit more aware of other road users, and how their actions affect others….
Majority of them ride selfishly.
Majority of people here think you are selfish to be honest.
Who hurt you Enough is Enough and how? It must be something bad to have left you so insufferable. If you hate so many things and groups of people you must lead a vile and petty life. Have you ever considered volunteering in something charitable to help your fellow man rather than writing such benign dislikeable drivel?
You really are a complete and utter wanker such a prick but then you do drive and EV so it sums you up.
I blame the Audi driver
All thanks to our wonderfully inept/corrupt council letting any multimillion pound company trash our roads for however long they see fit!
