An arterial road connecting Ryde to Sandown has finally reopened this lunchtime (Wednesday) almost 2 weeks after it was closed due to flooding. Morton Common, between Yarbridge in Brading and Avenue Road in Sandown, is now open in both directions meaning motorists no longer have to divert via Yaverland. Torrential downpours between 26th and 27th October led to the River Yar bursting its banks, flooding the A3055 – a fairly common occurrence in this location. Continued adverse weather and swollen rivers have meant that Morton Common has remained impassable to traffic. However, an assessment this morning has found that the flood water has receeded enough for the road to re-open. Island Roads says that flood warning signs remain in these locations with the road passable for most vehicles, with care. Nearby Golf Links Road and Longwood Lane have now also re-opened.
