Monkey Haven, which has re-opened its doors to the public today (Friday), has welcomed a baby Capuchin called Pumpkin.
Baby Pumpkin arrived on Halloween, giving the keepers a bit of a trick and a treat. They had suspected that Malou was pregnant – as she was bit off colour and starting to put on weight – but she had been given a contraceptive implant, along with all the other female Capuchins. The keepers were therefore shocked to see a little furry monkey clinging to her back one morning.
Lilymae Millichamp, one of the keepers at the attraction on the outskirts of Newport, says:
“Our little lockdown baby has given us all lots of joy already. Malou is a wonderful mum, Peppino is a protective Dad and the rest of the tribe dote on on the new arrival. Come and meet them as soon as you can!”
Following the easing of lockdown restrictions, Monkey Haven are once again welcoming visitors. They are open 4th, 5th, 6th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 18th, 19th and 20th December, as well as 27th December – 3rd January.

Congratulations! On the arrival of baby Pumpkin.
