Police are hunting for a male who fled on an e-scooter after an assault and robbery in Ryde, in which a mobile phone was stolen.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has launched an investigation after being alerted to the incident last night (Thursday).
It’s said that at somepoint between 19:40-19:50, a man was attempting to sell a mobile phone during a pre-arranged meet on Cothey Way, off Brading Road.
However, the would-be buyer allegedly assaulted the seller, snatched the mobile phone and fled the scene – without exchanging payment.
The suspect is described as black, aged in his late teens and was wearing glasses and a black puffa coat. He left the area on a Voi rental e-scooter.
Police say that no arrests have been made, but enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
Anyone in the area at the time who saw something they believe would assist with the investigation can call 101, quoting 44260084748.

Welcome to “The Mainland”!
That’s Caulkheads for you.
Needs a good beating.
We are not talking about eggs.
Quelle surprise.
no arrests – you need card details to rent those scooters – that shouldn’t take too long to pick up the renter – then questions and if nothing forthcoming – charge the renter
Islandwide CCTV would help.
Shouldn’t be difficult to find, the island is hardly
Croydon.
If only the Voi scooters had GPS tracking and linked accounts
I believe they do have tracking and it’s only a matter of time for the police to put together the time, a scooter being rented and the place, to nab the culprit.
What if it’s a self owned scooter
Ah, then you are snookered, but they are illegal on public roads in addition to pinching the phone.
Many things in life are illegal but there is not enough
Police to police the rules, hence islandwide CCTV and
facial recognition is required.
Speeding is rife, who Police’s it!
Parking on Double Yellow Lines is rife, every day Vans
are parked on Double Yellow Lines along Oakhill road
Seaview – NO ONE POLICE’S IT
Where are the Councils Civil Enforcement Officers.
Shirking elsewhere obviously
Arrivals from rhe mainland bring mainland style crimes
Always blaming persons from the mainland,
where are you and your parents from.
You would be surprised how many families actually
have moved to the island from the mainland, not all of
them are bad.
There is enough crime from persons who are born on
the island, many of their parents I must say have come from
the mainland at one time or another or their parents.
I knew the description before I read it.
Don’t sound like a Reformer it’s not political correct
Lol
Now we have these type moving in feral scum from the mainland!
We have enough scum of our own on the island already
many island born and bred.
I blame the parents, numpty parents = numpty sprogs
Here we go, this is just the start of it… watch the knife crime and stabbings start to increase.
Not if precautions are put in place
Islandwide CCTV would help.
