The Mariners of Wight donated £1,800 to charity at their 2022 Annual General Meeting at the Holmwood Hotel on Friday (25th March).
The Mariners are a group of retired and active Merchant Navy Officers who meet regularly throughout the year to socialise and to raise money for charitable causes related to seafaring.
This year’s presentations were made to two Island organisations by President Captain Allan Tulloch and Ms Georgie Hibberd, who was the partner of the late Tony McGinnity, founder of the Merchant Mariners.
The 2022 Island recipients were Cowes Sea Cadets of TS Osborne and Ryde Sea Cadets of TS Royal George. A cheque for £800 was presented to Carron Snagge of the Management Committee TS Osborne, and a further cheque for £800 was presented to Linden Softley, Commanding Officer TS Royal George.
The Mariners also presented £200 to Trustee Peter Goldberg of the British Sailors Society towards their Appeal for support for Ukrainian Seafarers.
